Irish soda bread Recipe

A quick and easy recipe for Irish soda bread. It's distinctive flavour works well toasted and served with smoked salmon and dill mustard for breakfast.

Pour people
  • Buttermilk : 150 ml
  • Self raising flour : 110 g
  • Wholewheat flour : 110 g
  • Bicarbonate of soda : 3 g
  • Maldon salt : 10 pinch(es)
  • Oat flakes : 20 g
  • Treacle : 10 g


  • ETAPE 1

    Pre-heat the oven to 180'C.

  • ETAPE 2

    Place the buttermilkt, black treacle and salt in a bowl and mix together.

  • ETAPE 3

    Combine the dry ingredients and then mix in the buttermilk mixture, taking care not to overwork the mixture. Shape the dough into small buns and roll through the oats.

  • ETAPE 4

    Place on a baking sheet, transfer to the oven and bake for 30-40 minutes. Use a skewer to check that the bread is cooked and then rest on a cooling rack.
