Christmas shortbread Recipe

Perfect for Christmas, these melt-in-the-mouth shortbread biscuits are made with Chinese five spice powder and sugar sparkles.

  • Unsalted butter : 100 g
  • Caster sugar : 50 g
  • Plain flour : 145 g
  • Chinese 5 spices : 3 g
  • For the rest of the recipe
  • Caster sugar : 25 g


  • ETAPE 1

    Mix together the sugar and the softened butter. Add the flour and the 5 spice powder and mix to form a pastry. Form sausage-like rolls and roll these through the remaining caster sugar.
    Rest the pastry in the fridge and then cut into 1cm thick rounds

  • ETAPE 2

    Preheat the oven to 200 °C.
    Place the rounds on a silicone baking sheet, transfer to the oven and bake for 8 minutes.

  • ETAPE 3

    Remove from the oven and allow to cool before serving.

Chef's tip

«Soften the butter to room temperature before mixing with the sugar. This is a fairly crumbly recipe - be careful not to overwork the pastry.»
