If using fresh fruit make sure it is free of any leaves or stalks.
Place fresh or frozen fruit in a heavy based saucepan over a low heat, add a little sugar and bring to the boil and let it simmer.
When the juices start to run after 2-3 minutes remove from the heat and allow to cool a little.
Check it is sweet enough then blend in an electric blender very briefly (not essential but helps with the sieving later.)
Pour into a sieve over a bowl and gently push through with a wooden spoon. Do not press hard as pips may get crushed and make the sauce taste 'woody'.
Check the flavour – lemon juice can be added to sharpen it or a little more sugar to sweeten.
