Though originally from China, today rice is a grain eaten all around the world, largely due to the fact that it can be cultivated in soil, irrigated waters and hillsides. Despite there being 7,000 different varieties of rice, the two main types are long grain, such as white and brown rice, and short grain varieties like risotto and rice used in rice pudding.
